Classic Cozy Mulled Wine Recipe

In mulled wine, "mull" means to warm a drink and add sugar and seasonings, not to contemplate a difficult decision. Your mulled wine questions won't be particularly difficult either.

– 2 large navel orange – 30 clove – ⅔ cup sugar – ⅔ cup water – 2 (750-milliliter) bottles Cabernet Sauvignon – 2 + 12 cinnamon sticks, divided – 4 star anise – 6 ounces amber rum

Cut each orange into four rounds using a sharp knife. Oranges should be cut into five slices, and six cloves should be pressed into the pith of each slice.

Make sure to set aside the remaining orange rounds for garnish by cutting them in half.

In a large saucepan set over medium-low heat, combine the sugar and water.

Make a stir. In order to dissolve the sugar, bring to a simmer. Cinnamon sticks, star anise, and oranges that have been pressed with cloves should be added to wine.

Maintain a low simmer for thirty minutes to one hour. Separate the oranges and spices from the wine using a strainer.

When you are ready to serve, pour half an ounce of rum into twelve small mugs that are heat-resistant.
