Banana French Toast Recipe

Simply put, banana french toast is buttery bread soaked in luscious banana custard and fried to golden perfection. Chopped nuts and caramelized bananas top it.

Banana French Toast – 4 - 5 slices of thick buttery bread like brioche, challah, or french bread – 1 large very ripe banana – 2 large eggs (US), room temperature – ¼ cup (59 ml) milk – 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon – 2 - 3 tablespoons unsalted butter for frying Caramelized Banana Topping – 2 large firm bananas, sliced into round – 2 tablespoons unsalted butter – 4 tablespoons (50 g) light brown sugar

Mash the ripe banana in a big mixing basin until it's mostly smooth with a few little lumps.

Dip each slice of toast bread in the banana custard on both sides. Let the bread slices soak in the custard for five minutes while the pan, griddle, or skillet gets hot.

Put butter on a skillet, griddle, or pan. Heat the pan on medium until the butter melts and sizzles. Swirl butter around the pan to coat the bottom.

Add 2–3 banana toast slices to the pan. Fry one side of banana french toast for 2–4 minutes until golden brown. Repeat banana toast bread flipping.

Clean the pan if needed. Butter and brown sugar should melt completely in the pan over low-medium heat. Sugar bubbles slightly.

After that, place the sliced bananas from a few firm bananas in the pan in a single layer.

Plate banana french toast slices and spoon caramelized bananas and almonds on top. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, add warm maple syrup or whipped cream, and enjoy!
